Seven things

Seven has always been my favorite number. I am the seventh kid. I was born in the seventh month on the seventeenth day. It's always been my lucky number. Each week I am going to start doing a "Seven things" post. Random thoughts, news, or little bits of my life! Because it's the little things that mean the most and that I want to always remember.

ONE//. I've been MIA from the blog world for a while now. I haven't felt inspired to blog like I used to. And ya know what? I'm perfectly okay with that. It's only good when it comes from the heart and I wasn't going to force it.

TWO//.If you follow me on Instagram I posted how I started to run again. I mean I used to run a little while I was dancing in high school & college. I never loved it. This year I have committed to myself and my 26 before 26 list that I would run a 5k, and hopefully learn to somewhat like running in the process. Friends I can't even believe I'm even admitting this publicly but I have started to like it. I have also started to crave it. I know it's only been a few months so far this year but I have made huge progress and I'm pretty proud of myself. Yay!

THREE//. Even though it snowed the other day here in Utah it has been quite lovely lately. The sun makes me happy. Something about it just makes me want to spend all of my free time and just makes me an all over happier person. Weird? Totally not. Everyone needs some Vitamin D :)

FOUR//.The Bachelor. Wow. I don't even know what to say other then I'm slightly embarrassed at one point that I wrote "JUAN-uary" on my chalk board. I probably pressed the snooze button too many times. He was just ridiculous. I felt so bad for all of the girls and am so glad some of them chose to leave on their own. On related news I am more than thrilled that Andi is the next Bachelorette!

FIVE//. This year I am going on quite the adventure with one of my current roommates (more on that later) but in the process I have been saving my pennies (and my Benjamin's, ha!) in the process. I haven't been shopping for myself since the end of November. I am shocked myself that I have held strong. But boy will it be worth it. June can't come fast enough! I need a vacation stat.

SIX//. I am an aunt for the 19th time! That's just happy in itself. Welcome baby boy to the family. I love you already.

SEVEN//. I cut 5 1/2 inches off of my hair. It was much needed and feels great. I haven't colored it since December and I am getting it done next month and going blonder. I feel like a 'new me'. 2014 is great. I'm loving it!

My seven things posts will be apart of my 26 before 26: get a regular blogger series up and running.

Learn how to play chess

I always have wanted to learn how to play chess & have hated the fact that I never knew how to play. Last week my brother-in-law was kind enough to teach me. I had so much fun learning! I actually really liked the game. There are so many things going on at once and it is all about strategy. I'm sure the more I play the better I will get but I am just happy that I actually know how to play now. So, if anyone is up to playing the game, let me know :)

Eating In.

Eat in every night for a month

As I was writing my 26 before 26 list I knew I wanted to do things that were going to challenge me, be rewarding, and make me a better person. This goal I knew would be especially hard at the start considering eating out is such a social event now days. I usually go out to eat on the weekends with my friends, and sometimes during the week as well. (hello, single life!) It ended up being easier as the days went by and eventually became a habit by the end of the month. I saved money, ate better, and even lost almost 8 lbs!!!  I was very happy I put this goal on my list. The hardest part for me was declining dinner invitations. I tried to make it as fun as I could and tried recipes I hadn't before, made some of my favorite recipes from my mother, and even had several nights where I invited others over to eat with me since I couldn't go out. I actually looked forward to grocery shopping & planning meals each week. I am now in the habit of packing my lunches for work and will be implementing this more to the up coming months. I do owe a lot to my support system aka my family and roommates for helping me do this :) But, I did it. I didn't eat out all month! I made every. single. meal.

After our Thanksgiving dinners we hit the road for St. George to start our girls trip! About five months before this trip we all found out that Justin Timberlake was going to be in Vegas so we thought why not make a little weekend trip out of it. It was a  fun trip watching girl movies, staying up late talking, playing games, eating out & most of all going to my all time favorite concert to date. Literally Justin blew me away. It was unreal. His voice was so clear and I got the chills the moment he walked out on the stage. He sang all of my favorite songs & played for THREE straight hours. The singing,  the lights, the dancing, & the presentation of each song just amazed me. He even sang an Nsync' song, an Elvis Presley song, a Michael Jackson song & even did a song just on the piano. His voice was beautiful and so was he. I loved every single minute of the concert! Thanks for a fun weekend girlies!

crouchet

 Re-learn how to crochet

When I was nine or ten years old a lady in my parents ward offered a 4-H class for crocheting. Some of my neighborhood friends and I went and I made a cute little blanket for my doll. After that summer I never crocheted anything again. My mother is always making these cute receiving blankets and burp rags. I have always told myself that I wanted to re-learn how to do it so I could make some for myself & as gifts. So this was a must on my 26 before 26 list. And over a few different lessons with my sweet mother she re-taught me several different stitches. It taught me patience that is for sure! I enjoyed re-learning and am still working on my blanket which I thought of giving away but call me selfish but after all the sweat and patience going into it I think I may keep it for my future children for this first one!

Cooking Class: Pasta Making with Kyle Lore

  Make pasta from scratch.

I've always had an obsession with pasta. I am pretty sure I ate it every Saturday growing up and it was always my specialty to make it for all of my friends. When I moved out of my parents house after I graduated high school and moved into my first apartment pasta was one of my basic food groups :). I remember being a little girl in the fall time watching my mother make homemade noodles for her chicken noodle soup. As I made my list of 26 things I wanted to do before I turned 26 naturally making homemade pasta was one of them! My sister found this class in Salt Lake at Tony Caputos Market. I loved learning from chef Kyle Lore. He also taught us a few different simple sauce recipes that were divine! I have loved making it from scratch and it tastes a million times better! I will be returning to Tony Caputos for more of the cooking classes they offer. I really enjoyed cooking in a class setting.

camping 2013

Go on an overnight camping trip.

September 2013

Hands down this camping trip was one of my favorites to date. A weekend away from the real world. Nothing but friends, Mother nature, fires, non stop laughing, four wheeling in the rain, breakfast in the mountains, getting drenched in the mud, roasting starbursts, star gazing and the smell of the fresh mountain air. It was just what I needed. Mother Nature did this girl some good.
